Made in the Foothills Writers’ Series Presents an Evening Workshop with Sally Kaplan
October 12 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
In this evening workshop, Sally Kaplan will explain how the art of fiction storytelling has a lot to learn from the craft of filmmaking and screenwriting. Sally will discuss how to create compelling characters from back-story to ongoing ‘need’; the best place to start and end a chapter; how to utilize visuals; as well as how to build plot, maintain tension and develop suspense in order to keep your reader turning the page.
Sally Kaplan has written and/or directed several prize-winning original screenplays. Her script Crossroads developed into a short film at the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women; Dybbuks and Chicken Soup was screened in numerous film festivals and Man on the Plane received accolades from screenwriting contests. Her works of prose appear in the anthologies: Changing Course: Women’s Inspiring Stories of Menopause, Midlife, and Moving Forward, and Wine, Cheese & Chocolate, published by Manzanita Press. With a degree in dance and creative writing from Hampshire College, Kaplan has taught courses at NYU, UCLA, and the University of Colorado in Boulder.
