THE STANDARD POUR’S NEW BEER FEST BENEFITS COLUMBIA COLLEGE

Spend a fall afternoon sampling some of the West’s best craft beers, enjoying a little bluegrass music and supporting a great cause at The Standard Pour Beer Fest on Saturday, September 19.

The brand new event, a benefit for the Columbia College Hospitality Management Program, will feature outdoor tastings from five West Coast breweries – Tioga-Sequoia, Dustbowl, Sierra Nevada, Deschutes and Firestone. The event will take place on the lawn next to The Standard Pour restaurant from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Columbia College and the Columbia College Foundation are grateful to The Standard Pour for this new sponsorship, and look forward to a successful event.

“We will be featuring an outstanding range of brewing styles and flavors produced by five of the best breweries on the West Coast,” said The Standard Pour owner Eric Davis. “And the setting is perfect for fall – outdoor on the lawn in historic downtown Standard.”

Tickets are $25 per person, on sale at The Standard Pour restaurant, and include a commemorative glass with unlimited 4-ounce samples. A $5 ticket for designated drivers are also available. A lineup of beer friendly-snacks including crispy pork belly sliders with cranberry mostarda, grilled cheese with Fiscalini cheddar and pesto, and garlic fries will be for sale to pair with the various brews. Sean Brennan will play acoustic bluegrass music throughout the afternoon. Event net proceeds will be donated to the Columbia College Foundation to benefit the college culinary arts program.

“The Standard Pour is a craft beer- themed restaurant, so we have wanted to host a Beer Fest like this for some time,” Davis said. “We have a large contingent of craft beer enthusiasts as well as interested novices here in Sonora and I think they will really enjoy celebrating all that is beer. If we are successful, it is our intention to launch the Beer Fest into an annual community event.”

“We’re honored to enjoy the generosity and have the support of each these fantastic breweries. They are all held in very high esteem in their industry and produce some of the finest craft beers around.

“We’re also extremely pleased and proud to be able to share the proceeds with the Columbia College culinary program,” Davis added. “I have had the good fortune of receiving a college culinary education so it is deeply rewarding to be able to help students gain important skills as they find their way into the culinary profession.”

The Columbia College Foundation added its thanks. “We are grateful for The Standard Pour’s generous offer,” said Foundation President Stephanie Suess. “Eric and Claudia Davis are excellent partners and we look forward to using the proceeds to benefit students.”

Career Technical Education Dean Dr. Klaus Tenbergen adds “We appreciate the industry support to strengthen our hospitality program.” Funds from the event will go toward the purchase of a mirrored “demo table” which allows students to follow a chef’s demonstration.
