Columbia College’s Symphony of the Sierra – December 13th

Columbia College’s Symphony of the Sierra is excited to be performing Franz Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony at their winter concert. Conductor, Mic Harper, feels confident about the upcoming free concert at Columbia College, which will be held in the Dogwood Theatre at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13th. “The orchestra has improved greatly and it is so satisfying to take on scores that are not simplified or edited,” reports Harper. “I found it a daunting task at first to even consider performing classical scores,” says Harper, “but daring to do so have resulted in our ensemble attaining a higher bar. The musicality of our local musicians is really quite astonishing. It is an honor and pleasure to work with them and to present this concert.”

The wide-ranging repertoire promises to be a performance well worth hearing. The concert includes the seasonal favorite, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” The orchestra will also be performing “Ballet Music from Le Cid,” by Jules Massenet, “Ashokan Farewell,” by Jay Ungar, and “Capriccio in A minor,” by Joseph Haydn. “This repertoire provides a wonderful introduction to orchestral music for children and also is complex enough to satisfy the seasoned classical ear,” says Harper.
